WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH
Dorothea Towles
Today’s girl crush goes to the gorgeous Dorothea Towles. Towles was the first successful African American fashion model in Paris in the 1950s. Hired directly on the spot by Christian Dior, she was a regular model for the fashion house and many other designers.  In a 2004 interview for Women’s Wear Daily, Towles reflected on her expereice: “For once I was not considered black, African American or Negro. I was just an American.” The French fashion establishment “treated you like a queen,” she said.  We love anyone who goes against the grain and is not going to let barriers hold them back from their dreams.
