Today we thought we would mix things up a bit and give our props to a boy doing good in the world. His name is Jonny Imerman and he is the founder of Imerman Angels, a program that pairs a person touched by cancer (a cancer fighter or survivor) with someone who has fought and survived the same type of cancer (a Mentor Angel). Imerman is a survivor of cancer himself and has used his experience to create this unique service that is 100% free. Those in the program create 1-on-1 relationships which inspire hope and offer the chance to ask personal questions and receive support from someone who is uniquely familiar with their experience.
If you are in the New York area and interested in helping support this foundation, you can attend the upcoming Imerman Angels event Thursday, March 29th. For more info and to purchase tickets, please click here.
Girl props go to Nicole Fasolino. Nicole started a jewelry line called 365 Heartbeats, which sells the cutest handmade heart necklaces, and all proceeds go to the Children’s Heart Foundation. Nicole’s fascination with hearts started years ago, which you can see on her blog where she spreads love daily.
She also has an ongoing project, where she photographs someone daily, and has them share something about their heart.
Today’s Girl Props goes to Michelle Hellman Cohen.
Michelle Hellman Cohen is one of a small group of people that helped launch Charity: Water five years ago. Charity: Water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Aside from helping plan events to raise money for the charity, Michelle has also gone to Africa see all the amazing contributions Charity: Water is making in the flesh. Last June, Michelle traveled to Ethiopia which she describes as a “memory she will always hold close to her heart”.
When asked what she remembers most about the experience, Michelle says:
“The most were the simple things – the warm and inviting smiles of the children who we were getting the gift of water, gifts given by the people of Ethiopia who had nothing to give, and the moments of clarity when we realized that the group we were traveling with (who consisted of major donators who were all VERY different in character) we were all more the same, than different as we were there with the same mission— to see good done in the world. It was powerful stuff. And now I just dream of going back and taking my husband as I want his world rocked just as much as mine was!”
Did you know that…
- right now, almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. That means one out of eight of us.
- unsafe water and a lack of basic sanitation kill 42,000 people every week – that’s more than all forms of violence, including war.
- 90% of these deaths are children under five years old.
